Shizhu Pepper Planting Area--Chongqing

Shizhu county is located at Chongqing municipality, and Shizhu pepper possesses a long well-known reputation around the world. In 1950's, Shizhu peppers are exported to Malaysia, South Korea, Sri Lanka and other countries; In 2006, more than 10 tons of Shizhu pepper was saled to Taiwan province.

There  has many pepper varieties in Shizhu, such as South Korea's "Mallika", "Yami special", Hunan's "Bo spicy Hongyan", "yidu Red", Tianjin's  "Red King", and other 100 varieties. In Shizhu, there have 23 towns and 166 villages (communities) grow peppers, in 2008, the planting area reached 251,000 mu, 39.4% more than the last year's; the output of fresh pepper reached more than 200,000 tons, 55.5% more than the last year's, the total value reached RMB 300 million yuan, which effectively consolidated the position of the largest pepper planting area of western China, and won the title of "hometown of Chinese pepper" .
