Dubbed “Red Pepper Town”, Qiubei County in Yunnan Province is one of China’s foremost red pepper export and production centers. Hot pepper of Qiubei is tasteful,output and quality of which rank the first in China.
Test results from Yunnan Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine show Qiubei peppers outclass those celebrated strains in Chaoyang, Japan, and Xianghua, Hebei, in their vitamin C, protein, chili essence, organic acids, carotene, and chromaticity. Qiubei peppers are widely acknowledged as the best edible chilies.
Since 1954, Qiubei red peppers have been shipped to Hong Kong, Macao, the U.S., Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the UK, Germany, France, and Spain.
During the golden autumn in 2009, the farmers of Qiubei County of Yunnan Province are busy harvesting over-200,000-mu (one mu equals 0.165 acres) of hot peppers. Qiubei County is laurelled as the "Land of Hot Peppers in China". This year, the local agriculture department has provided the farmers with high-quality hot pepper varieties. The hot peppers have been widely ordered by businessmen from quite a few countries and regions like the US, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. The mouthwatering hot peppers can bring average additional income of 3,000 yuan to each of the local farming household.
