Dongting Lake Fresh Water Fishery--Hunan

Dongting Lake, sits in Hunan Province，is the second largest freshwater lake in China. Dongting Lake boasts of favorable natural conditions, abundant living aquatic resources and plentiful unique aquatic wildlife, thus playing an important role in China's fishing industry, economic and social development and improvement of ecological environment.

The natural lake area of Dongting Lake, is 2625 square kilometers, existing 117 kinds of fish. Dongting Lake fishing industry hold a advantage position among the inland fishing industry in China, and is the "Cradle"  of Chinese freshwater fishing industry.  in 2008, in Dongting Lake, the total output of aquatic products reached 1.3 million tons, the fishery output value was over RMB 12 billion yuan, respectively accounted for 65% and 77% of the province's. Dongting Lake ecological fisheries economic circle, including Yueyang, Yiyang, Changde, Changsha 4 cities' 28 counties and districts.In the plan of the development of 2015, the aquatic product breeding area will be 4.84 million mu, total output of aquatic products reaches 1.84 million tons, the General fisheries output value will be over RMB 20 billion yuan.

At present, fishery has become a major pillar industry of the Dongting Lake, all of famous and high quality aquatic products in Dongting lake, rank first in Hunan province. In 2008, the output value of the famous and high quality aquatic products of four "Hundred miles corridor"  broke through RMB 5 billion yuan. Among them, Hanshou - An Township's 200,000 mu turtle corridor, Huarong - Nan County's 180,000 mu eel and snakehead corridor, Dingcheng - Yuanjiang's 100,000 mu mandarin fish corridor, Yunxi district - Yueyang county - Datong Lake's 400,000 mu crab corridor, stretch hundred miles, which form an efficient fishing circle around the Dongting Lake.
