Pengze Crucian Carp Breeding Area--Jiangxi

Pengze County, located in northern Jiangxi Province，was rated as "hometown of Chinese crucian carp" by China Aquatic Processing and Marketing Association in 2005. In 2005, Pengze county had a crucian carp breeding area 110,000 mu, accounting for 96.8% of the total aquaculture area, aquaculture production reached 10,000 tons, with a production value of RMB 100 million yuan, which accounting for 9.1% of the whole agricultural output, Pengze crucian carp breeding industry has become a new pillar industry of Pengze county. In 2003, "Luhua" brand Pengze crucian carp was rated as "local famous brand of Jiangxi province" by Jiangxi Strategy Promotion Committee; In 2004, it was rated as "green food" by Green Food Development Center.

Pengze crucian carp (Carassius auratus of pengze), just like silver crucian carp, is known to be a gynogenetic crucian carp. The Pengze crucian carp whilst of the same family as the Common Carp is different in that it doesn't have barbules and rarely reaches a weight above 1.5 kg. It has a high nutritional value which contains lots of trace element for human heath, such as calcium, phosphorous. The protein and fat contents that in muscle range up to 17.38%, 2.4% respectively. It is especially for women who need special protection during pregnancy, child birth and baby nursing period.
