Tianbao town, located in Xiangcheng district, Zhangzhou city, Fujian province, is the original place of the famous "Tianbao banana". Situated by the Jiulong River and backed by Tianbao Mountain, Tianbao Town has a mild and humid climate which provides a favourable condition for the growth of bananas.

Main banana varieties are "Taiwan banana" and "India banana". The cultivation of India banana in Tianbao has a over 700 year's history, which was introduced from India, also known as local Tianbao banana; Taiwan banana was transplanted from Taiwan 60 years ago. This banana boasts plump, golden-yellow and tiny spotted figure with thin peel. It tastes spongy, tender, sweet and luscious and enjoys grand prestige at home and abroad.

Tianbao banana is one of the "six renowned fruits of the South Fujian". In 2005, Tianbao banana growing area reached more than 160,000 mu, the output is more than 400,000 tons, and the production value is more than RMB 700 million yuan.
