Xuyi Fresh Water Lobster Breeding Area--Jiangsu

XuYi is an ancient city with 2,000 years history, which is located in the northern of Jiangsu province. It is rich in high-quality lobsters with features of more flesh and savory flavor. Its lobsters are regarded as “Green Lobster without Pollution”, which is the first certificate trademark of animals in China. Since 2001, China Lobster Festival has been successfully held for 5 times in Xuyi, Nanjing, Shanghai and Jinhua(Zhejiang Province). The festival combines the industry and local resources, and operates systematically. All of this makes the small lobster changed into good economic benefits and promote the extension of its brand and economic and cultural development in Xuyi.

In the first half of 2009, after being officially named as "hometown of Chinese fresh water lobster" by China Cuisine Association several years ago, Xuyi lobster successfully got the certifications of "Chinese well-know trademark" and "Chinese geographical indication product". Now, Xuyi is not only the largest fresh water lobster breeding base in China, but also a special tourist destination. In 2008, in Xuyi, there have more than 200 farmers got the lobster breeding scale of 150 mu, mixed breeding area reached 160,000 mu, lobster output was up to 50,000 tons, the total output value was more than RMB 1.5 billion yuan. At present, Xuyi has developed seven lobster processing enterprises, the annual processing capacity is more than 8000 tons of lobster products. Frozen lobster, whole lobster and other products, have been exported to the United States, Sweden, the European Union and other countries and regions.
