Donghai County-China's Crystal and Quartz Capital

Donghai County of Lianyungang city, Jiangsu province, has won it name home and abroad as "China's Crystal Capital" due to its big production and full varieties of quartz and crystal resources. With excellent quality, the crystal and quartz in Donghai accounts the largest production and reserves in China.

The crystals are mostly white, but can also be seen in brown, yellow, pink, and purple. They range in size from small pieces that fit into the palm of the hand to the Crystal King, a 3.5-ton monster discovered in 1995. Their types include the hair crystal, which contains hair-like substances, and the grass and water-core crystals. Chairman Mao Zedong's coffin was made from the crystal produced here.

Handicrafts made of crystal are booming and silicon processing industry has been a national and provincial pillar industry. Silicon powder, pipe of quartz glass, piezoelectric crystals and chips occupy 70% to 80% of the market share in domestic market. An industrial group of silicon material with international influence has been initially come into being.

With a quartz reserve of over 300 million tons and crystal over 300,000 tons, Donghai is well known as China’s Capital of Crystal. Since 1991, Donghai has successfully held eight crystal festivals. Based on this platform, Donghai crystal has tapped into domestic and international market. On October 28, Donghai crystal was conferred by the General Administration of Quality, Inspection and Quarentine of China as the National Geographic Symbolic Product.

At present, Donghai crystal has realized overseas and chain operations and have been transformed from “Processed in Donghai” to “Made in Donghai”. China Crystal Crafts&Gifts City has a sales amount of 2 billion RMB, which makes Donghai a world class distribution center of crystal and crystal-related products. Silicon material processing and researching hve been respectively listed as the nation’s regional pillar industry and provincial Xinghuo pillar industry. Major products including silicon powder, quartz glass tube, piezoelectric cyrstal and chips accounts for 70%-80% of domestic market share. And a both nationally and internationally influential silicon material industrial cluster has been formed.
