China is one of the main producing countries of corn in the world, the national output stood at 160 million tons in 2008 cropping year, and the amount is foreseen to be around 200 million tons, in the 2010 cropping year thanks to the enlargement of acreage in the Northeast and North China and also yield improvement, making up 20% of the world total, the highest level in history.
Chinese corn has been a five-year high yield successively and enough supply for domestic use. However, Chinese animal husbandry developed slowly in 2008. Meanwhile, a large number of corn further processing enterprises lost money and a few enterprises had low operation rate. And because of the blocked export, the demand for corn decreases sharply.
Among the Chinese corn processing products, mineral primary products are the largest part however its added value is low. Products of high added value still cannot meet the market demands.
Another key problem in Chinese corn processing industry is the main processing products, especially the surplus of powder and ethanol products and low operation rate. Because of the large number of small enterprises and fierce competition, the industry needs further integration. China witnessed a fast growth of further processing of corn in 2006. Further processing of corn starch, corn ethanol, disnatured starch and starch sugar sustained rapid growths. Competition of corn further processing intensified, and there were constant occurrence of mergers and reorganizations among companies.
