Zhaotong is located in northeast Yunnan province on the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtse River.Zhaotong is the main apple producing region. Zhaotong possesses the largest quality apple production base in South China, the largest apple processing base in Yunnan Province, and an early-ripening apple production base in the China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone.
In Zhaotong, the main apple planting area is Zhaoyang District, in which the size of apple cultivation has reached 21.5 million mu, the yield is 280,000 tons in 2009, the production value is nearly RMB 400 million yuan, and apple has gradually developed into Zhaoyang District unique pillar industries.
