Shimen Orange Planting Area--Huanan

Shimen County, located in Hunan province, is known as the "native land of orange". Shimen is most famous for its great Orange production, In order to promote the world reputation of Shimen oranges, the county has held three orange festivals to lure foreign buyers,such as "The Orange Festival" and "flower displays" annually, which earns Shimen a better reputation in China.

Shimen's tangerine plantations date back more than 600 years to the Ming Dynasty. Tangerine export started in the 1960s and has grown in the years following, Annual orders for export have remained above 30,000 tons in recent years. Receiving the green light from the United States Department of Agriculture recently, Shimen County, Hunan Province introduced its oranges into the US market. With a 50,000-mu pro-environment orange base, Shimen is now the No. 1 orange exporter in Hunan. Its exports reach twenty countries.

Crowned the No. 1 Early Orange Producer, and the Cradle of the Orange, Shimen has a cultivated area of 423,000 mu, among which 69.3 percent is for early-ripening oranges. A yearly production of 300,000 tons has made orange cultivation the leading agricultural undertaking.
