Nanyang jade (aka Dushan jade) is mined in Nanyang County in Nanyang jade occurs in red, purple, and blue hues.
Nanyang jade, also called "Dushan jade" or "South jade", is produced in Dushan, northern place of Nanyang City, Henan Province. The mines are situated on the 200 meter high 'Dushan Hill.' It is one of the four famousjade recorded in the history book of our country. The texture of Dushan Jade is solid and dense, exquisite and glossy. And it has bright reflet and variegated color and luster. There are 77 kinds of color type and 6 kinds of colors, including green, white, yellow, purple, red and blue. Dushan jade is the first-class material.
Dushan jade carving has a long history. The jade shovels which were unearthed near Dushan, Huangshan New Stone Age Site had proved that our ancestors had known and used Dushan jade 5000 years ago. "Jade Street Temple" site which is at the foot of Dushan is the place to carve jade article in Han Dynasty. Nanyang jade carving had been formed a big industry in China Before Liberation. The products of jade carving covers over 120 categories, which are people, flowers and birds, animals, pavilions and buildings, jewelry, etc.
There is a 6-day grand international Jade Carving Festival which attracts large number of traveling merchants from home and abroad held in Zhengping County every year. Nanyang jade carving enjoys high reputation in the world.
