Laiyang Pear is produced in Laiyang County of Shangdong Province in north China. As one of Shangdongs special local products, the tradition of cultivating pears in Laiyang had an approximately four-hundred-year history. As a "hometown of pears" , Laiyang county had a composite landscape of low mountain and plains, which produced not only grains but the famous Laiyang pear.


At present, it occupies a planting area of about 50,000 mu (1 mu = 1/15 hectare), with more than one million pear trees and an annual output of about 100,000 tons. The land in Laiyang County with brown fertile sand soil has good permeability and facilitates photosynthesis, and the great temperature difference between day and night helps store the sugar obtained through daytime photosynthesis. This advantageous natural condition guarantees the quality of Laiyang Pear."Laiyang pear" is a trademark for place of origin which is registered with the Chinese National Industrial and Commercial Bureau.


The characters of Laiyang pear:Its weight is 220-280g, the shapes are quite different, and there are usually projections in the stem depression. It will be slight green after storage since the green color turns to yellow. The spots are big in dark brown, and look coarse. The pulp is neat and fragile, juicy, very sweet, slight fragrant, and the quality is very nice. It matures in middle September, and the fruit supply period is from September to the next February.
