Jidong Oil Province is located in Tangshan in Hebei Province, covering an area from Yanshan Mountain in the north to the Bohai Bay beach in the south. The exploration area is 5,797 square kilometers, including 4,797 square kilometers onshore and 1,000 square kilometers offshore. Gaoshangpu, Liuzan and Laoyemiao oilfields have been discovered and developed in onshore Nanpu, with oil productivity of 1.5 million metric tons per year.
The exploration of Nanpu tidal zone and shallow water area commenced in the 1980s. Since 2002, guided by the geology of oil-rich sags in terrestrial basins and the prospecting theory of lithostratigraphic reservoirs, CNPC targeted the Nanpu offshore exploration to structural and lithostratigraphic reservoirs at shallow to medium depths. Complex structures and reservoirs were finely described through high-precision 3D seismic and joint PSTM (pre-stack time migration) processing and interpretation. In September 2004, a commercial flow with a daily yield of 700 cubic meters of oil and 160,000 cubic meters of gas was obtained in well Laopunan-1 from the Ordovician reservoir. During the 22 months of production test, the daily output was maintained at over 200 metric tons. In May 2007, CNPC identified 3P reserves of 1.18 billion metric tons in Nanpu tidal zone and shallow water area. In May 2007, CNPC identified 3P reserves of 1.18 billion metric tons in Nanpu tidal zone and shallow water area.
In 2008, 2 million tons of crude oil were produced in Jidong Oil Province.
Nanpu Oilfield
Part of the Nanpu Sag in the north of the Huanghua Depression of the Bohai Bay Basin, Jidong Nanpu Oilfield is located in the Caofeidian Port area of the city of Tangshan, Hebei Province, where CNPC's Jidong Oilfield Company operates. The oilfield has 450 million metric tons of proven oil in place, with its major target layers buried 1,800-2,800 meters underground.
The discovery of Nanpu Oilfield can be traced back to 2004. On September 29, 2004, a significant discovery was revealed in well Laopunan-1, showing the great exploration potential of the Nanpu area. Five oil-bearing structures were then discovered in the Nanpu Sag. By the end of 2007, 3P reserves of 1.18 billion metric tons were newly added in Nanpu Oilfield.
In 2008, productivity construction at Jidong Nanpu Oilfield saw smooth progress.
