Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) declined 2.9 percent year on year in May, official data showed Wednesday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the decrease was driven by the decline of transport; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; clothing and footwear; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance.
However, food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to increase in May, growing 1.2 percent.
For the period of January to May, the CPI decreased 0.7 percent as compared to the same period last year.
