Malaysia's April inflation down to lowest since 2010

Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) declined 2.9 percent in April year-on-year, the lowest rate since 2010.

The Malaysian Statistics Department said that the decrease in the overall index was driven mainly by lower oil prices.

The index of transport fell 21.5 percent year-on-year in April. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels dropped by 2.2 percent.

However, food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to increase in April, rising 1.2 percent.

On a monthly basis, CPI decreased 2.7 percent.

For the period of January to April, the CPI also declined 0.1 percent.
