Sri Lanka approves standard operating procedure for automobile manufacture

The Cabinet of Sri Lanka has approved a standard operating procedure (SOP) for expediting automobile manufacturing in the Asian country, state media reported here Friday.

The Proposed Standard Operating Procedure inclusive of Local Value Addition Matrix presented by Industry Minister Wimal Weerawansa was approved for implementation by the cabinet on Thursday.

Weerawansa was quoted in state-owned Daily News as saying that vehicle importers would be willing to invest in local assembly and manufacture of automobiles under the new SOP.

Weerawansa said that a combination of import restriction and a sound SOP would help develop the automobile industry in Sri Lanka.
