Malaysia's October producer price index falls 3.6 pct

Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production decreased 3.6 percent year on year in October, official data showed Monday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the decrease in the overall index was driven by the index of mining which slumped 43.5 percent; electricity and gas supply that dropped by 1.2 percent and manufacturing which fell 1.1 percent.
In contrast, the index of agriculture, forestry and fishing surged 21 percent, while water supply increased by 1 percent.
On a monthly basis, the PPI for local production registered a marginal increase of 0.1 percent in October.
For the period of January to October, the PPI for local production decreased by 2.7 percent as compared to negative 2.6 percent in the same period of the previous year.
