The Lisbon Urban Rehabilitation Area (ARU) recorded real estate investment of 2.52 billion euros (2.79 billion U.S. dollars) during the first half of this year, a decrease of 16 percent year-on-year, a market analysis company revealed on Wednesday.
The amount of transactions also suffered a sharp decrease of 26.5 percent year on year, with 5,205 transactions registered in the first half of the year, according to Confidencial Imobiliario.
However, Ricardo Guimaraes, director of Confidencial Imobiliario, reminded that "it is important to remember that 2018 has been a record year since data reporting (2014)".
During 2018, real estate investment reached "a record value of 5.92 billion euros", corresponding to around 13,150 transactions.
"As operations fell more sharply than the volume invested, it should be noted that investors increased their average investment by 14 percent," said Ricardo Guimaraes, noting that in the first half of this year they invested, on average, 487,800 euros per operation, 58,100 euros more than the 429,700 euros registered in the first half of 2018, "which means that investor interest remains".
