Japan's inflation rate increased in November for the 23rd consecutive month, but remained below the Bank of Japan's 2-percent inflation target, a government report showed on Friday.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the core consumer price index, which excludes fresh food prices because of their volatility, gained 0.9 percent in November from a year earlier mainly due to rising energy costs.
The latest increase comes on the heels of a 1.0-percent rise in October, the statistics bureau said.
The so-called core-core consumer prices, which excludes both fresh food and energy costs, increased 0.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the bureau.
