Tokyo stocks mixed in morning on Wall Street's gains, profit-taking

Tokyo stocks were mixed Thursday morning as buying on Wall Street's solid overnight lead was offset by investors opting to take profits following the market's recent gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 56.16 points, or 0.23 percent, from Wednesday to 24,054.80.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.71 points, or 0.21 percent, at 1,806.44.

Chemical, pharmaceutical and service issues led decliners, while bank, insurance as well as oil and coal product issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
