Weekly pork prices drop in China

Pork prices in China went down last week as supply exceeded demand, official data showed.
From April 26 to 30, the average pork price index in 16 provincial-level regions tracked by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was 28.64 yuan (about 4.4 U.S. dollars) per kg, down 3.7 percent week on week.
This figure also represented a year-on-year drop of 32.6 percent.
The Chinese government took a series of measures last year to boost the pork supply, including releasing frozen pork reserves and increasing imports.
To soften the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, China ramped up financial support, including subsidies and loans, to major pig-producing counties to restore production.
