Medtronic launches a new site in Shanghai

MEDTRONIC said it has launched its first bioprosthetic heart valve manufacturing site in Shanghai as it seeks to leverage local manufacturing capacity and help alleviate global supply shortage.

The manufacturing site is built within Medtronic's Shanghai plant in Caohejing Hi Tech Park which currently operates 15 manufacturing lines.

This follows other investment from the Ireland-headquartered medical device company including the blood dialysis systems and insulin pumps projects in Chengdu.

This renovated facility is the newest and one of the most advanced in Medtronic’s global network for the processing and production of bioprosthetic valves.

"With the expansion of capabilities of our Chinese production facility, Medtronic will continue to cultivate local talent and help China better unleash its potential in manufacturing high-value medical devices,” said François Monory, vice president of Operations at Medtronic Cardiac and Vascular Group.
