Retail inflation rises to 7.34 pct in India

India's retail inflation in September rose to 7.34 percent from 6.69 percent in the previous month, according to the official data released by the Ministry of Statistics on Monday.

The rise in inflation was mainly attributed to rising food and vegetable prices.

According to the data, the rate of food price rise was 10.68 percent in September, compared to 9.05 percent in August.

The price data were collected from representatives and selected 1,114 urban markets and 1,181 villages covering all states and union territories through personal visits by field staff of Field Operations Division of the National Statistical Office (NSO) of the Ministry of Statistics.

During September, the NSO collected prices from 98.0 percent of villages and 97.8 percent urban markets while the prices reported therein were 83.0 percent for rural and 87.9 percent for urban.
