Indonesia recorded inflation at 1.68 percent throughout 2020, amid weakening demand and purchasing power due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Agency of Statistics said on Monday.
This figure is far lower than the target between 2 percent and 4 percent set by the central bank, Bank Indonesia.
"Compared to the inflation since 2014, this is the lowest inflation," according to Setianto, the agency's Deputy of Distribution and Services Statistics.
Meanwhile, the agency recorded the December inflation at up to 0.45 percent.
The December inflation occurred due to an increase in most indices for the expenditure group, including the foods, beverages and tobacco group, by 1.49 percent; the health group by 0.19 percent; the transportation group by 0.46 percent; and the food and beverage supply group by 0.27 percent.
The December inflation was also supported by the decrease in the expenditure index, including the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.01 percent; the recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.01 percent; and personal care and other services group by 0.29 percent.
