Malaysia's January industrial output up 0.6 pct

Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew 0.6 percent year on year in January on higher manufacturing output, official data showed Friday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the index of manufacturing rose 2.1 percent in January. The index of mining and electricity, however, fell 3.9 percent and 0.01 percent, respectively.
The growth of manufacturing was driven by sub-sectors such as non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products; petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products, as well as electrical and electronics products.
According the department separate announcement, Malaysia's manufacturing sales also increased by 2.6 percent year on year to 118.2 billion ringgit (about 27.6 bilion U.S. dollars).
