Consumer prices in France down 0.4 pct in Jan.

The consumer prices index (CPI) in France fell by 0.4 percent in January from a month earlier on a drop in manufacturing costs, the country's Statistics Institute Bureau Insee said on Thursday.
Adjusted for seasonal variations, the index rose by 0.2 percent from the previous month and by a 1.3 percent year-on-year.
The January price fall stemmed mainly from a 2.1-percent decline in manufactured goods, pulled down by an 11.3-percent drop in clothing prices due to winter sales, Insee said in its report.
Over the period, prices of food products grew by 0.5 percent, but were a little less dynamic than those in December 2018.
In the wake of petroleum prices, those in the energy sector dropped less sharply to 1.2 percent in January compared with a 2.4-percent fall a month earlier.
On a yearly basis, France's prices index slowed down to 1.2 percent.
