Tokyo stocks drop in morning on lack of fresh trading cues

Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as investors were lacking fresh trading cues, including news related to a key international trade deal.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 216.88 points, or 0.92 percent, from Tuesday to 23,303.13.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 8.49 points, or 0.50 percent, at 1,701.18.
The majority of industry categories retreated into negative territory, with iron and steel, oil and coal product, and insurance-linked issues comprising those that declined the most by the morning break.
