India's wholesale inflation fell to 1 percent in March from 2.26 percent in the previous month, data released by the federal commerce and industry ministry on Wednesday said.
"The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly Wholesale Price Index (WPI), stood at 1.00 percent (provisional) for the month of March 2020 (over March 2019) as compared to 2.26 percent (provisional) for the previous month and 3.10 percent during the corresponding month of the previous year," a statement issued by the ministry said.
"Build-up inflation rate in the financial year so far was 1.00 percent compared to a build-up rate of 3.10 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year."
Meanwhile, the rate of inflation based on the WPI Food Index consisting of "food articles" from the primary articles group and "food product" from the manufactured products group decreased from 7.31 percent in February 2020 to 5.49 percent in March 2020, the data said.
Separate data released on Monday showed retail inflation slowed to 5.91 percent in March.
