Stimulants worth over 2.15 mln USD seized in Myanmar's Yangon region

Myanmar authorities seized 4,660,000 stimulants in Myanmar's Yangon region, according to a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint anti-narcotic police made a seizure in the Yangon region on Saturday.

Stimulants worth over 2.79 billion kyats (over 2.15 million U.S. dollars) were confiscated from a truck.

The township police filed a case against eight suspects in connection with the case under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the release said.

On Sunday, a total of 975,000 stimulants worth 1.46 billion kyats (1.12 million U.S. dollars) were seized from a 12-wheeled truck along with three suspects in Hpa Yar Gyi township of the Bago region.

According to the latest release issued by the president's office, a total of 1,419 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar while 2,169 people were charged in connection with the cases as of Nov. 21 this year, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department on June 26, 2018.
