S.Korea's consumer price rises 0.7 pct in August

South Korea's consumer price rose 0.7 percent in August from a year earlier, marking the highest in five months, statistical office data showed Wednesday.

The consumer price index (CPI) stood at 105.50 in August, up 0.7 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea. It was the fastest increase since March when the index gained 1.0 percent.

The consumer price rose 0.1 percent in April, before falling 0.3 percent in May. It made no change in June, but the consumer price inflation gained to 0.3 percent in July and 0.7 percent in August.

Price for agricultural, livestock and fishery products advanced 10.6 percent in August from a year earlier, the highest in three years since August 2017.

Price for industrial products fell 0.4 percent in the month, and price for electricity, tap water and natural gas slipped 4.4 percent.

Price for private services added 1.1 percent in August on a yearly basis, but public services cost declined 1.8 percent.
