French price index up 0.5 pct in August

The French price index (CPI) rose 0.5 percent in August from the previous month, official figures showed Thursday.

The index was unchanged at 2.3 percent year on year, the national statistics institute Insee said.

The price rise in the month was mainly from manufactured products such as shoes and clothing at the end of summer.

Price of services registered a slower growth of 0.3 percent in the month, compared to 1.1 percent growth in July, thanks to "seasonal decline in the prices of air transport and the decline in prices of communication services."

Food costs rose by 0.3 percent while energy remained unchanged over the period.
