Number of unemployed Germans falls below 2.4 mln in February

The number of unemployed citizens in Germany fell by 30,000 to 2.396 million in February compared to the previous month, the Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced on Friday.

The "comparatively strong" decline was partly due to the mild winter in Germany, BA noted.

The labor market in Germany, however, continued "to show signs of economic weakness," said BA Chairman Detlef Scheele.

Compared to the previous year, the number of unemployed Germans increased by 23,000, according to BA.

"The demand for labor from companies in Germany continues to decline," Holger Schaefer, senior economist for employment at the German Economic Institute (IW), told Xinhua.
