Malaysia's inflation, measured by consumer price index (CPI), declined 1.3 percent year-on-year in July, official data showed Tuesday.
The Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the decrease in the overall index was attributed by the decline in transport; housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels; clothing and footwear; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance.
However, food and non-alcoholic beverages, which contributed 29.5 percent of CPI weight, increased 1.4 percent.
On a monthly basis, the CPI increased 0.7 percent in July as compared to June.
Core index that excludes most volatile items of fresh food as well as administered prices of goods and services also rose 1.1 percent year-on-year in July.
