Malaysia's inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), declined 1.4 percent year on year in August.
The Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement on Wednesday that the decrease in the overall index was attributed mainly by the decline in transport, as well as housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.
However, food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.3 percent.
On a monthly basis, the CPI increased by 0.2 percent.
For the period of January to August, the CPI decreased 1 percent as compared to the same period last year.
