Tokyo stocks open lower on fresh concerns about global economic outlook

Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday, tracking U.S. shares retreating overnight on renewed concerns about the outlook for the global economy.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 178.15 points, or 0.78 percent, from Thursday to 22,748.89.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 7.72 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,659.29.
Marine transportation, mining and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
