China prosecutes 2,663 IPR infringement suspects in Q1

Chinese prosecutors filed lawsuits against 2,663 individuals suspected of intellectual property rights (IPR) infringement during the first three months of 2021, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Friday.

The figure represented a year-on-year increase of 26.5 percent, said the SPP, noting that the suspects were indicted mainly on counts of faking registered trademarks and selling products with counterfeit trademarks.

The cases mostly happened in economically developed regions, said the SPP, adding that those in the four provincial-level regions of Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu accounted for 56.8 percent of the total number.
