New orders for factory goods in the United States rose 2.3 percent in August, the biggest monthly increase since September 2017, the U.S. Census Bureau said on Thursday.
According to a monthly survey conducted by the bureau, new orders for manufactured goods in August increased by 11.5 billion U.S. dollars to 510.5 billion dollars.
The survey showed that orders for July were also revised to a 0.5 percent decrease instead of a 0.8 percent drop which was previously reported.
New orders for manufactured durable goods in August surged 4.4 percent, while nondurable goods orders gained 0.2 percent at the same period, said the bureau.
Unfilled orders, an indicator of the backlog in production, rose by 10.4 billion dollars to 1,176.5 billion dollars in August.
