Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) agricultural futures closed lower Thursday, as traders turned to technical selling on lack of fresh market news.
The most active corn contract for March delivery went down 3.5 cents, or 0.92 percent, to close at 3.765 dollars per bushel. March wheat delivery fell 12.75 cents, or 2.42 percent, to close at 5.1325 dollars per bushel. March soybean delivery was down 8.5 cents, or 0.92 percent, to close at 9.2175 dollars per bushel.
Grains and soybeans retreated, pressured by technical selling and profit-taking, as investors moved to the sidelines ahead of U.S. crop data release this week.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will release monthly supply and demand estimates on Friday along with winter wheat seedings, quarterly grain stocks, and export sales that were delayed due to partial government shutdown.
As for weather forecast for agricultural crop, a winter storm warning is in effect for much of the U.S. state of Wisconsin and parts of Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.
