Number of tourists in North Macedonia drops by 95.6 pct in June

The number of tourists in North Macedonia in June this year dropped by 95.6 percent year-on-year, while the nights spent by them decreased by 94.6 percent, State Statistical Office (SSO) reported on Wednesday.
According to SSO data, a total of 5,210 tourists were registered in June and the number of nights spent in the country by tourists was 14,179.
The data showed that the number of domestic tourists decreased by 88.9 percent, while the number of foreign tourists decreased by 97.9 percent.
In the first half of 2020, the number of tourists decreased by 71.8 percent compared to the same period in 2019. The number of domestic and foreign tourists decreased by 64.8 percent and 74.8 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of nights spent by tourists in the country declined by 71.3 percent, according to the report.
On Feb. 26, North Macedonia reported the first case of COVID-19, which has hit hard the country's tourism industry ever since then.
