Chinese shares close lower Thursday

Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 2.43 percent, closing at 3,123.83 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.21 percent lower at 9,907.63 points.
Combined trading volume on the two bourses stood at 733.38 billion yuan (around 109.46 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 652.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most stocks fell, with losers outnumbering gainers by 1,341 to 99 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,984 to 131 in Shenzhen.
Bucking the downward trend, shares related to the ophthalmology industry were relatively strong, with Zhejiang Shapuaisi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. rising by the daily limit of 10 percent to 11.61 yuan.
Companies in the poultry industry also demonstrated strong performances. New Hope Liuhe Co., Ltd. saw its share price rise 5.28 percent to 15.75 yuan.
However, shares related to fuel cells, hydrogen energy and industrial hemp were sluggish.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.84 percent to close at 1,669.98 points Thursday.
