Dollar stays in upper 106 yen zone on documents alteration scandal

The U.S. dollar stayed in the upper 106 yen zone on Monday in Tokyo amid political tensions here after the Finance Ministry admitted it altered documents related to a cut-price sale of state land to a nationalist school operator with ties to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie.


At 5:00 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 106.57-58 yen compared with 106.76-86 yen in New York and 106.69-70 yen in Tokyo at 5:00 p.m. Friday. It moved between 106.36 yen and 106.97 yen during the day.


The euro fetched 1.2337-2338 dollars and 131.48-52 yen against 1.2300-2310 dollars and 131.39-49 yen in New York and 1.2318-2319 dollars and 131.42-46 yen in Tokyo late Friday afternoon.
