British gov't borrowing hits 17-year low

British government borrowing for the last financial year, between April 2018 and March 2019, hit the lowest point in 17 years, according to figures released Wednesday by the Office for National Statistics.
Data showed that public sector borrowing in the latest financial year was 24.7 billion pounds (about 32 billion U.S. dollars), 17.2 billion pounds less than in the previous financial year, hitting the lowest for 17 years.
Meanwhile, in the latest financial year, the central government received 739.4 billion pounds in income, including 558.6 billion pounds in taxes, up by 5 percent compared to the previous financial year.
In addition, general government gross debt was 1,837.5 billion pounds at the end of December 2018, equivalent to 86.7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
