US economy grows weakly

THE US Commerce Department yesterday confirmed a picture of sluggish growth in 2016, with the world’s largest economy growing at its slowest pace in five years. 

The updated figures left prior estimates unchanged. US gross domestic product grew by 1.6 percent in 2016, the slowest pace recorded since 2011. The final quarter of the year saw the economy grow by 1.9 percent.
