HIGHLY-COMPETITIVE computer games requiring professional skills are set to take up a huge chunk of the nearly 79 billion yuan (US$12.3 billion) revenue in the booming Chinese eSport market, said a Shenzhen-listed game giant.
“The (eSport) events are popular and professional, and may attract income similar to what NBA or other (major) sport events get,” Xiao Hong, CEO of Shenzhen-listed Perfect World, said.
The eSport market revenue may hit 78.6 billion yuan in 2018, up from 64.7 billion yuan last year, said China Insights Consultancy.
The eSport market may also draw income from advertising and sponsorship as well as game broadcasting on TV and other media channels as eSport “entertains and influences” audience, Xiao said during the China DOTA 2 Supermajor event which ended on Sunday in Shanghai.
