Japan's Subaru Corp. admitted in a report to the transport ministry on Friday that it had failed to conduct proper inspection on brakes and speed meters of a number of vehicles.
The number of the vehicles involved is difficult to find out, as the misconduct came to light during hearings with employees, said the automaker.
The malpractice dealt another blow to the Japanese carmaker after it admitted in April that one of its plants systematically doctored mileage and emissions data for new cars.
The company has attributed the data fabrications to the employee's "low awareness" of the importance of inspections and the "insufficient supervision" by management.
The company also admitted last year to having unauthorized staff conducting inspections of new cars.
