Tokyo stocks retreat in morning as U.S. stock futures decline

Tokyo stocks retreated Friday morning, as U.S. stock futures declined, with investors on guard for further volatility when U.S. markets open later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 51.79 points, or 0.18 percent, from Thursday to 28,145.63.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 1.25 points, or 0.07 percent, at 1,837.60.

Air transportation, electric power and gas and machinery issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
