Vietnam approves 2.7 bln USD subsidy package for epidemic-hit groups

Vietnam has approved a subsidy package worth over 62 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 2.7 billion U.S. dollars) to help individuals, businesses and households affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.

People having their labor contracts suspended or on unpaid furloughs for at least a month due to the epidemic will enjoy a maximum subsidy of 1.8 million Vietnamese dong per month, the news agency reported.

Employees whose labor contracts are terminated and are yet eligible for unemployment allowances, as well as people without a labor contract that have lost their jobs, will receive 1 million Vietnamese dong per month, according to the news agency.

Each person of what classified by the country as poor and near-poor households will be subsidized 250,000 Vietnamese dong per month while individual business households with tax return of less than 100 million Vietnamese dong per year can receive 1 million Vietnamese dong per month, the news agency reported.

The subsidy will be provided for around three months starting from April.
