U.S. jobless claims drop last week

The number of U.S. jobless claims declined last week, signaling strong momentum in the U.S. labor market, the U.S. Labor Department reported on Thursday.


According to the department, the number of people filing for U.S. unemployment benefits dropped 8,000 to stand at 207,000 in the week which ends Sept. 29.


The four-week average of initial claims rose by 500 to 207,000 last week, said the department.


U.S. unemployment rate remained at 3.9 percent in August, which is the lowest level since December 2000. According to the U.S. Labor Department, September's employment report is scheduled for release on Friday.
