Israeli company develops chip compatible with car-communication technologies

Israeli autotech company Autotalk announced on Wednesday that it has developed a new chip for automatic communication between vehicles.

The company's second-generation chipset, already set for deployment, can support both C-V2X technology, which is mainly used in China, and DSRC-based technology, which is widely used in the United States, Japan and Europe.

V2X (Vehicle-to-everything) communication is the passing of information from a vehicle to any entity that may affect the vehicle and vice versa.

DSRC (dedicated short-range communications) are one-way or two-way short-range to medium-range wireless communication channels specifically designed for automated use.

In contrast, C-V2X is based on direct cellular communications without the need for a network or operator.

V2X is moving towards mass market adoption, as the world's largest automakers have announced plans to equip their car models with this technology.

In recent years, the world of V2X has split into two technologies, making it difficult to create a single, harmonious global solution. Autotalk's chip may solve this problem.

Autotalks, which operates in the United States, Japan, Korea, Germany and France, raised millions of U.S. dollars from Korean Hyundai Motor Company in July.
