Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning after Wall Street's mixed lead

Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as the market inherited a mixed lead from Wall Street overnight after choppy, directionless trade, despite some upbeat corporate earnings.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 110.29 points, or 0.46 percent, from Tuesday to 23,914.88.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 9.43 points, or 0.54 percent, at 1,731.10.

Nonferrous metal, mining and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
